Introduction

Senior year, the year you look forward to since the day you started grade school. Yes, the rumors are true, senior year is the best year of your life so don’t waste a second of it. My name is Annie Meaney, I’m an 18 year old senior girl always looking for a good time. I’m not afraid to speak my opinion and I consider myself a confident friendly young lady, oh and I hate history. So, you’re probably wondering why I even bothered taking this class. Well the truth is, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Facing History and Ourselves, and I heard the teacher was pretty cool too. Anyways to start off your senior year right, I advise you all make sure FH&O is written on your course selection sheet, you won’t be disappointed. So if you’re anything like me, don’t let the word history scare you away because the way you learn about history in this class isn’t like you ever have before. FH&O is a class that changes your mindset about everything. Your first mission is to find yourself, and to learn how identities are formed for everything and anything. You learn about past traumatic events and view them in a way you would have never thought of before. It takes your mind to a completely different place, learning the way humans think, why we do what we do, why it’s important to stand out and make a difference. Sitting back and watching the world go by is not something you will ever be able to do again. At some points during the course a feeling of guilt may take over. By watching films about people influencing others in a positive or negative way, you yourself will begin to notice more and more about the world around you and how you can make a difference. By connecting past events such as racism and the holocaust to your own life you begin to be able to make better choices in your everyday life.  After taking this class you will take a jump from a bystander, to a person who makes a difference. I know I have.
